The “scraps” left over from larger sculptures are often to beautiful to just toss out so I have begun to challenge myself to do sketch sculptures. For this process, I’ll grab a scrap and start carving it with out a plan to see where it leads. This one evolved in the a staircase that reminds me of hiking mountains and the false peaks you sometimes experience. Often you feel like you are almost at the top, until the terrain changes and you realize you must go down and back up to reach the true peak, much like many of life’s adventures.
